Our faculty are teachers, but they are also researchers who are dedicated to the advancement and sharing of knowledge within their fields and around the world. Research takes place on and around campus, in the nearby Sierra Nevada, including Yosemite National Park, throughout the San Joaquin Valley, around the state and across the globe in such places as Belize, Turkey, Tibet and Cuba.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day and Jubilee Day, was first celebrated on June 19, 1866 as an annual event to commemorate the abolition of slavery in the United States. It has, for 154 years, invited Americans to remember our 401-year commitment to freedom and equality, while reminding us of the precariousness of Black freedom.
